STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 19TH FEBRUARY 2020

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 902 head of cattle. Comprising: 892 Feeding Cattle (262 Young Bulls, 89 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 541 Bullocks & Heifers) & 10 Pedigree Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – another strong trade today for the feeding bulls but an excellent entry with pen after pen of high quality bulls in all ages and breeds. Lots of bulls 2 months off the caw £850-£950 looking particularly well sold whilst the strong 400kg 10-12 month old bulls received particular interest from feeders experiencing a good lightweight trade for finished cattle. It should be noted that Angus sired bulls continue to sell well if strong enough and unusually strong entry of pure Charollais bulls sold well to average £1100 with a fair proportion over 16 months.

Feeding Cows – A cracking trade for a strong of cows. More meat on offer today, but lean improving cows probably the trade of the day. Better end £1200 to £1400, but the average of £893 per head all through shows the strength of the trade.

Stores –
Tremendous trade from the first beast right through to the last today. A full ringside of buyers coming from all over the UK today with a good represented side from the East and some fresh faces that haven’t purchased for a while from Derbyshire and Scotland. Every spec of cattle entered was met with a fierce audience battling to fill wagons. Native cattle topped a trade at £1140 from AM&SA Binns a pen of 3 Angus Steers. A nice show of Cattle coming from South Yorkshire as Skipton auction proves to have the men forward to take large quantities of cattle. Top prices for Blue Bullocks come from Ian Townson and JH&SM Mason realising £1600. A run of cattle from Mr H Downs included 16 Black and White Steers averaging £898 and topped at £1055.
The sale of Craven Champions Show Cattle was very well attended by prosective purchasers and a good level trade was seen throughtout with many show calves £1200 to £1800. The Champion was a lovely Black Heifer from MR Ewbank of Lofthouse which sold to the judge Michael and Ellie Wynne for £1900, whilst Steven Tracey and Samantha Fawcett topped the sale at £2100 with a super black heifer. James Huck from Austwick presented a great consignment of Limousin sired calves and these topped at £1900 too. (Full report to follow tomorrow)
