STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 6TH MARCH 2019

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 817 head of cattle Comprising: 811 Feeding Cattle (219 Young Bulls, 61 Beef Feeding Cows, 531 Bullocks & Heifers) & 6 Breeding Cattle. Store Bulls: A hint of farms clearing pens before lambing time causing some runs of feeding bulls to be not quite as strong. Despite this and a falling finished price a firm trade. Bulls under 12 months and 400kg + comfortably £1050 to £1160 and yet the lighter weight bulls sold similarly well circa £900. A wide range in choice saw hard late June suckler bred bull stirks av £675 and strong sim x holstein bulls to £755.

Beef Bred Feeding Cows: A nice show for numbers with 61 head forward and attracting a larger contingent of buyers with 14 bidders ringside creating a fast selling trade. Best young feeding cows and pure bred types £1050 to a top of £1220, medium type cows £850 to £1000, with the leaner but straight cows to graze being mid 600’s to late 700’s. The overall selling average was £811 per head. Plenty more Cows needed to satisfy demand, please contact Ted or Jeremy for more details.

Store Cattle: A lot more yearling cattle on offer today with some good runs of heifers and bullocks perfect for summer grazing. There were 140 heifers aged 6-12mth forward and they met a solid trade averaging £731 topping at £1100 for a cracking heifer from John Bosworth, Stackstead. Bullocks of the same age bracket were not about in such abundance as a result of the strong young bull numbers however an average of £835 for the same age range was a strong result with Seth Blakey topping at £1080. Pick of the trade today however went to the Wilkinson Family of Preston who topped the day sale with a run of cracking heifers peaking at £1420 & £1400.

Still good numbers of stronger cattle to still keep the short term finishing buyers interested with 116 heifers 19- 27mth of age averaging £964.22 with a lot of strong, well conformed heifers £1100+ and topping with John Smith from Carleton with a monstrous heifer at £1310. 140 bullocks in the same age bracket meant for a similar respectable average of £981 for 18- 27mth old entries topping with Ned Simpson, Pateley Bridge at £1250.

Another strong show of native cattle through the door with 138 selling away to healthy trade, with sire Identified cattle commanding premium prices. Chris Wellock of Halton East topped the day with a big Angus bullock at £1200 and Mellin’s of Bracewell breaking £1100 with a big framey type of heifer.

Please remember monthly stirk and young store cattle sale on Saturday @ 10.00am. Catalogue available to download 185 head entered.
