Feeding Bulls –

Christmas Show: Best Bull won by D Broadbent and sold for £1140

A good entry for December and a number of high quality bulls and consignments under 12months. A very good trade av £1030 against last sale £967 but need to be strong enough with December calves leading the prices but a March British Blue was the highlight at £1190 from D&FJ Leeming. Autumn born bulls are scarce and a very good trade topper was a November Limousin from TH&K Wood at £1300.

Feeding Cows –

Christmas Show: Best Cow won by JR&DL Ogden and sold for £1100

A very sharp trade with a good percentage of heavy short keep cows in the mix. £1000+ was the target for heavy cows with significant interest in young cows and heifers to feed beyond the New Year.

Stores –

Christmas Show Best Heifer won by S Horsfield and sold for £1330

Christmas Show Best Bullock won by E&M Townley and sold for £1320

Store cattle a flying trade again. 412 sold with trade for all classes of goods bouncing again. Trade topped with the Lim Heifers at £1450 from E&M Townley & Son selling a loveley run of bullocks and heifers. Mr Townley also took Champion in the bullock class selling his Lim Bullock to £1320. The top priced bullocks came from regular vendors Bargh Bros selling their pen of Angus Bullocks at £1445. 51 Angus Bullocks sold today with strongest goods £1180-£1245 and biggest weighing bullocks with good thick tops on them selling £1340-£1445. Other big Angus bullocks sold either side of £1100 with young bullocks selling very well again £900’s-£1000. Total Angus bullock average came to £1074. Continental bullocks sold tremendous with thick end beast meeting good premiums for retail suppliers best Charollois £1200+ with best Lims £1300+ up to £1370 from F&A Walmsley and best suckler bred Blue Bullocks £1180-£1220. Large dairy bred blues sold tremendous with the big framed heavy bullocks £1200-£1290. Other good large cattle with a little less power but still big rangy goods selling away at £1140-£1180. Strong framed blue bullocks but lacking the weight of the best were aond £1000+ and some younger end Blues selling in the mid £900’s.

Heifers sold well once again with meat and frame for short keep goods. Some rangy thick Angus heifers sold to £1285 from Bargh Bros. Other good thick heifers selling in the £900’s and £1000’s. Growing Angus heifers could be picked up £720-£870. Big Lim Heifers selling to premiums again £1400+ for best E grade and for big U Grade heavy end cattle. Other good U Grade Lims selling away at £1200-£1300. Some smaller nice suckler bred feeding cattle sold in the £1000-£1080. Young suckler bred 7/8-month-old heifers with shape selling at £800-£900, some that were picked on could push £1000 if nicely warmed up. Slightly plainer goods a touch less in the mid to late £700’s. 40 Blue heifers sold with a pair of top grade over year heifers from JR&DL Ogden selling at £1340. Other good suckler bred end £1180-£1260. Dairy bred heavies selling over £1000. Slightly smaller feeding cattle with not the widest frame in the late £800 to early £900 range.
