STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 12TH APRIL 2017

Forward: 531 head of cattle Comprising: 139 Young Feeding Bulls, 43 Beef Bred Feeding Cows, 339 Bullocks & Heifers, & 10 Breeding Cattle. A grand show of cattle at CCM Auctions fortnightly sale held on Wednesday at Skipton Mart.

Young Feeding bulls were first up in the morning with 139 presented and sold. Some tremendous top end prices for a lambing time sale with Stuart Gill of Dacre making £1380 of a British Blue cross, Willie Naylor of Cononley made £1300 of a Limousin cross, Stephen and Tracey Fawcett of Drebley together with daughter Samantha had two great bulls only 9months and 10 months old making £1260 and £1250, Messr Clark & Johnson from Windermere made £1225 of a 10month old Charolais, whilst Thomas Robinson from Slaidburn made £1200 of Limousin cross. Continental bulls average £1048.17 across the board.
Today we held our First prize show for Beef Bred Feeding Cows and there was a large entry of 43 head forward for sale. John Fawcett from Barden was awarded first prize Continental cross cow for a 7 year old Blonde cross that went on to top the sale at £1420. Robert Wade from Cononley presented a nice run of cows, best of these a 4 year beef cross at £1300. A Tennant from Peckett Well had an overage Charollais heifer at £1250, Messrs Stockdale from Burnsall had a 6 year old British Blue cross at £1230, Geoffrey Wilson from Goredale sold a 7 year Limousin cross for £1220 and the first prize Native cow, a 5 year old Beef Shorthorn at £1200. Andrew Houseman from Dacre had a nice run of cows to top at £1210 for an 8 year old Limousin cross. The 43 cows attracted a large ringside of buyers with 12 different successful purchasers and the sale levelled at £985.38. Cows must be pre-entered for the catalogue, 4pm Wednesday prior to sale, this way we can reliably inform customers of anticipated numbers.
In the Store Cattle section there was the Spring Prize Show & Sale for Bullocks and Heifers with Champion awarded to a heifer from D&S Hollins of Peckett Well selling for £1290, whilst Richard Maudsley topped the steers at £1320 with a Limousin cross. Plenty of men for grazing cattle today with yearling bullocks in very strong demand and yearling heifers were also good to sell, whilst strong cattle were short of requirements and would be slightly dearer on the fortnight.
A few more Beef Breeding Cattle about today topping at £1420 for Angus cows with Angus Bull Calves. It’s the time of year now that customers are looking for replacements, so please pre enter them. The Pedigree season starts next sale, and this always brings more customers for commercial breeding cattle.
