STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2015

Forward: 618 head of cattle Comprising: 70 Young Feeding Bulls, 483 Bullocks & Heifers & 65 Breeding Cattle. There was no let up in cattle numbers at CCM Skipton on Wednesday where a grand entry of 618 head were penned for sale, completing a busy week of 850 Store cattle passing through Skipton Mart having had 232 Stirks at the Monthly sale on Saturday. Young Bulls were a strong trade with additional customers back round the ring with harvest having been been completed. Again there was good interest shown in the 7-8 month old bulls that have been warmed up with creep feed and starting to go forward. Stronger quality Bulls remain up around £1,300.

In the Store cattle section quality sold well with a keen ringside of buyers keen to secure the best, several lots of strong smart heifers £1,350 - £1,390. Bullocks were also in a similar vien.  Yearling cattle as ever found a willing ringside of buyers, good bullocks £1,000 - £1,100, and a run of 18 suckled steer and heifer calves 6 – 8mo from one farm averaged just shy of £1,000.

The sale featured a dispersal of Commercial & Native suckler breeding cattle from the Littlebank herd of British Blue Cattle owned by H&S Maudsley, Stainforth. The high health cattle with naturally spring born British blue calves proved very good to sell with prices peaking at £1720 for a 2010 born British Blue x Cow with March born British Blue x Heifer calf at foot.
