STORE CATTLE WEDNESDAY 18TH JULY 2018

Forward: 793 head of cattle Comprising: Feeding Cattle (134 Young Bulls, 66 Beef Feeding Cows, 521 Bullocks & Heifers) & 72 Breeding Cattle. Feeding Bulls easing in line with prime cattle trade and anticipated higher finishing costs, however todays sample was not quite representative of the usual strength and quality. Premium quality September born bull stirks £1100 + for K&GJ Huck, Austwick and £1200 for November born bulls for KA &HL Fawcett, Barden.

66 Grazing cows met a healthy trade with good cows in short supply, a large percentage of lightweight feeding cows distorted the average today with a section average of £792 topping at £1260 for a Limousin Cow from E&M Townley & Son.

Store cattle saw a healthy trade considering the numbers forward and prospects for keep looking severely hampered. A large quantity of older short keep cattle were on offer today with native cattle on the receiving end of some very firm bidding. KP Drinkall of Gargrave topped the natives with 7 tremendous Aberdeen Angus bullocks at £1165. Hard and rough farmed stores were a surprising trade considering the circumstances. A ready audience for sweet yearling heifers was obvious to see with retail type cattle to a premium.
