STORE CATTLE WEDNESDAY 1ST AUGUST 2018

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 455 head of cattle Comprising: 425 Feeding Cattle (55 Young Bulls, 21 Beef Feeding Cows, 364 Bullocks & Heifers) & 30 Breeding Cattle. Bulls sold to a reduced audience with trade in line with expectations. A few fresh Autumn born bulls now hitting the market and these are a respectable trade with U Grade potential stirks £850 to £1150 depending on weight. Scarcity of sound strong 13 – 15 month old bulls kept prices in the £1150 to £1300 range for the best.

Feeding Cows slightly less on the fortnight in line with reduced live and deadweight pricing. However continental cows with scope for feeding were very good to sell along with sire identified native.

Important for vendors to represent feeding cows at the ringside and make the necessary health/service representations.

In the store ring the sliding dead and liveweight prices along with feed price futures made for an easier trade on the fortnight however plenty of bidders were still present at the ringside right until the end of the sale. Older stronger cattle again dominated the catalogue and still commanded honest prices around the ring with the Handley family of West House (Penultimate vendors in the ring) topping the heifers at £1140. Some good runs of cattle were well supported with Michael Winchesters 3 Aberdeen Angus Bullocks hitting £1130. Smaller cattle were harder to place with young straight heifers bearing the brunt, still plenty of buyers on retail type heifers with bullocks well supported throughout the sale.
