Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep

A healthy trade for store lambs today with 5781 lambs through the ring. The pre-sale Show of Beltex store lambs was kindly judged by Peter Fox of Withgill, Clitheroe and chose a super pen of lambs presented by Andrew Haggas of Otterburn which despite being the last man in the ring went on to sell for £86.
Smart beltex were keenly sought after with 606 lambs averaging £70.81 with Texel lambs also receiving a strong reception with 3435 lambs averaging £65.10. Mules were out in good numbers for the first time this year with 1450 on offer to an average of £54.77 topping with a pen of 50 well framed mule wether’s at £67.50 from John Harker of Lofthouse. A note to Mule Vendors that there is a show for the best pen of 50 lambs next fortnight at 9.30am.

A good entry of 432 Breeding Ewes sold well with a packed ringside looking for sheep to tup early. Mainly older correct ewes, 4shr plus stronger end £105-£120, commercial types £90-£100. Best shlgs £145 commercial types £125-£130.
Next sale for ewes is on Friday 22nd August Approx 5,500 head.
