Forward: 70 Registered Swaledale Rams
CCM Auctions conducted the Annual Sale of Swaledale Rams at Skipton on Monday evening.
A great show of rams attracted a very large crowd from a wide area to this well established annual sale and trade was strong as a result. As ever at Skipton a big strong ram found a ready market with 7 rams selling a four figure prices. The sale leading price of 1,500gns was paid for the champion ram on the night, consigned by John and Neil Cowperthwaite of Howith Farm, this shearling sired by a Peter Lightfoot, Gillside out of a Catlow sired ewe was purchased by Mr F Macaskill, Killin.
Kevin Huck of Bordley had a good sale with three prices over 1,000gns. Leading his pen at 1,400gns was a shearling by a Sealhouses out of a Joe Nattrass Ewe purchased by JA&JH Hewetson, Giggleswick. Kevin also sold another Shearling this time sired by the Nattrass out of a Long Green Ewe for 1,200gns to Andrew Rigby of Slaidburn. Finally the old Nattrass tup, now a 6 shear, sold for 1,300gns to Andrew Ivinson of Ousby, Penrith.
Roy Nelson, also of Bordley is never far away in the prices and his pen leading price of 1,200gns was for a shearling by a Sealhouses out of a Long Green ewe, the successful buyer was Peter Metcalfe of Langbar.
The other leading prices were 1,200gns for the 2nd prize aged ram consigned by Wilf Buckle of Bleathgill, Kirkby Stephen. Bred by John Tully this 2 shear found a new home with JA&JH Hewetson.
The final four figure price was paid for the first prize aged ram and reserve champion consigned by Alan Birbeck, Nateby, Kirkby Stephen. Bred at Valley Farm by a Helbeck sire out of a Stanhope Gate got ewe it sold for 1,000gns to J Pickles of Ribblehead.
