XMAS POULTRY SHOW - SATURDAY 8TH DECEMBER 2018

David Pownall champion again at Skipton Christmas poultry showcase Derbyshire’s David Pownall won his second Craven Feather Auctions championship of the year at the annual Christmas show and sale of poultry and waterfowl staged at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 8) Mr Pownall, of Riverside Cottage, Old Glossop, was following up on his title-winning success at the previous show in September, again with a pair of 2018 White Wyandotte bantams, out of top show stock.

These were the only two occasions the former double national poultry champion had shown poultry this year, though he is no stranger to success at the North Yorkshire venue, winning the first of many championships there in 2013. His latest victors went on to sell for £50.
A long distance traveller from Scotland, Mary Leggate, of Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, stood reserve champion with a pair of 2018 Silver Appleyard female ducks, which again made £50. Mrs Leggate also breeds Jacob sheep.
The first prize large fowl, a trio of Blue Laced Wyandottes, from B Dunn, of Darlington, sold for £38.
Top price in show of £105 fell to a trio of July, 2018, Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets from Stephen Hitchen, of Ludendenfoot, Halifax. He also headed the selling prices at the previous Skipton poultry show in September.
Catching the eye with £100 sales were William Rathmell, of Tong, Bradford, with a pair of 2017 Pied Peafowl, and C Darley, of Brough in East Yorkshire, with a trio of Pied & Indian Blue Peafowl.
The festive showcase attracted by far the largest entry of the year, with over 200 pens on parade.
