CHRISTMAS DAIRY SHOW - MONDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2019

Dairy At the Annual Christmas Show and Sale of Dairy cattle the Supreme Championship was awarded to Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk showing Aireburn Saloon Sher a first calving daughter of the Semex sire Sandy Valley Saloon bred from the EX90 Aireburn Shamrock Sher, herself a cow bred from 8 generations of VG or EXC, having given close on 31000 litres in 3 lactations. Sold 14 days calved and giving 34kg Aireburn Saloon Sher joined John Hitchen of Crib Farm Dairies at Luddenden Foot for the top price of the day at £2500.

Bell Busk Moorhouses retain Craven Dairy Auction Christmas championship Husband and wife, Brian and Judith Moorhouse, who run the prolific Aireburn pedigree Holstein herd at Hesper Farm, Bell Busk, bagged the Christmas Craven Dairy Auction supreme championship for the second year running at Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, Dec 2) The Moorhouses, multiple champions and prize winners with dairy cattle at their local mart, retained the festive title with Aireburn Saloon Sher, a first calving daughter of the Semex sire, Sandy Valley Saloon, bred from the EX90 Aireburn Shamrock Sher, herself a cow bred from eight generations of VG or EXC, having given close on 31,000 litres across three lactations.

Rearing Calves to £450 (134) B&W av £60.76 Cont av £286 Native av £174 Cracking show of calves today with the largest number forward in a while! All sorts a flying trade with 21 active buyers ringside. Buyers travelling far and wide for the show, coming from Lincolnshire, Sheffield, Middlesbrough and Hull. The show was Judged in the very capable hands of Graham Stainthorpe.

Hartley family Blue bull calf champion at CCM Skipton Christmas showcase Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas show season began with the seasonal rearing calf highlight, the 134 dairy-bred youngsters, the highest entry all year, achieving 100% clearance and producing flying trade for all classes. Craven Dairy Auction (7 head) A cracking Craven Dairy Auction today with a larger show on offer and a good ringside of buyers from both East and West sides of the hill looking for milk. The champion in milk animal came from EJ Fort’s “Silmoor” herd from Silsden Moor. Silmoor Maurice Peach, is from what was described as a solid cow family that milks well and sired by a homebred bull out of their Denmire Marie family. Calved 16 days and giving 35 litres, spirited bidding saw her get away to a sale price of £2180.

Craven Dairy Auction (7 head) A tidy entry for the twice monthly Craven Dairy Sale sponsored by NMR (represented by Helen Whitaker) and the show judged by Martyn Jennings. The show champion was a lovely pedigree newly calven heifer from M Baul & Sons, Ravensgate Herd in Bishop Thornton. Sired by Welcome Armitage Pesky PLI +£410 and out of the Blossom family, she sold calved 20 days giving 32 litres at £2100 locally to John Howard. Messrs Baul sold another newly calven heifer out of the Honesty family by Model Man giving 32 litres being calved 23 days, she sold for £1800.

Blossom blooms for Peter Baul at Craven Dairy Auction A fifth Craven Dairy Auction championship of 2019 was clinched by the Ravensgate pedigree herd of Bishop Thornton’s Peter Baul at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest fortnightly Monday show and sale (Oct 28) It fell to Ravensgate Pesky Blossom 199, a 20 days calved, 32 litre heifer by the Genus sire, Welcome Armitrage Pesky, which claimed top call of £2,100 when knocked down to regular local buyer John Howard, of Heslaker.

Rearing Calves to £365 (46) B&W av £45 Cont av £221 Native av £160 Very mixed show of calves this week, topping the trade was Mr JC Marshall at £365 for a Blue Bull followed by another at £360 from Church Farm Enterprises. Blue Bulls averaged £265 for 14 of them. Blue Heifers topped at £240 and averaged £170 for 16. B&W average this week was £45 which was very respectable with mainly smaller calves on offer. Another Robert Crisp victory at Craven Dairy Auction Dales farmer Robert Crisp, of Nelson House, Calton, bagged another show victory with a newly calven heifer at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest Craven Dairy Auction. (Mon, Oct 14)

Rearing Calves to £395 (77) B&W av £61 Cont av £251 Native av £181 Calves were much better to sell this week with a healthy show of 77. Top price calf came from J&SA Lancaster with a Blue Bull at £395. 11 of the 16 Blue Bulls reaching over £300 with the whole average £326. Blue Heifers were good to sell but not reaching the prices of the bulls. Heifers topped at £250 and averaged £206. B&W calves averaged £61 topping at £135 for a lovely Friesian from G Pickersgill. Aberdeen Angus Bulls topped at £290 with an average of £230 whilst heifers topped at £240.

Craven Dairy Auction (12 head) A healthy show of milkers were highlighted by a tremendous heifer presented by Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton topping the days sale with a tremendous Pedigree heifer selling for £2050 to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester. Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk once again headlined with another Pedigree Heifer giving 32kg selling for £1950 to the same purchaser.

Rearing Calves to £415 (61) B&W av £91.2 Cont av £307.42 Native av £203 A healthy turn out of calves for the September show and sale of rearing calves with Tony Binns of Clint undertaking the judging honours. Some difficult classes were swiftly dissected however where to place the champion rosette took some deliberation, eventually choosing the superb heifer presented by JP&KE Hartley of Bolton Abbey went on to take the second highest price of the day selling for £390 to Malcolm and Stephen Abbott of Dacre. The Reserve Champion a superb British Blue bull from Mike Longster of Fellbeck which sold for the sale high of £415.

Moorhouse milker champion again at Craven Dairy Auction The Aireburn pedigree herd of Bell Busk husband and wife dairy farmers Brian and Judith Moorhouse at Hesper Farm clinched another in a long line of Craven Dairy Auction championships at their local Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, Sept 9) They bagged their latest title with the first prize newly calven heifer, Aireburn Delegate Melissa, a 16 days calved 30 litre daughter of their home-bred stock bull, Delegate, whose offspring are now starting to come through. The victor made £2,000 top price when claimed by ringside regular Brian Blezard, of Ribchester.

Craven Dairy Auction (14 head) A handy trade in the dairy ring with a nice amount of bidders present. The Judging was carried out by Richard Crabtree of Clifton who swiftly went about his business and chose a superb 30kg heifer from Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk which proceeded to sell for the sale high of £2000 to Brian Blezard of Ribchester. The next highest price came from the Fort family of Silsden Moor with a sweet 28kg heifer selling for £1900 to Mark Goodall of Tong. Ian Parkinson of Barden continued his good run of newly calved cows with his 1st prize 2nd calver selling for £1800 MD Parkinson.

Barden-based Bossman daughter bags Craven Dairy Auction championship Dales dairy farmer Ian Parkinson, who runs his Holstein Friesian herd at Holme House Farm, Barden, stood champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest Craven Dairy Auction show and sale. (Mon, Auf 26)
