DALESBRAD PRODUCTION SALE PRESS - FRIDAY 20TH JULY 2018

Dalesbrad dairy production sale sets 2,600gns top price A successful on-farm production sale of 171 pedigree Holstein dairy cattle from the Throup family’s well-known Dalesbrad herd was staged at Higher House Farm, Silsden Moor. (Friday, July 20) With cattle on the ground standing at an all-time high and buildings full to capacity, Allan and Susan Throup, and their son, Richard, decided it was time to reduce numbers and a tremendous crowd arrived ringside for the beginning of the sale.

Craven Dairy Auction (11 head) A few extras to the catalogue were a welcome addition to a quiet show of milkers. A few less buyers present but still all heifers were sold by the end of the sale with 1st and 2nd prize heifers topping the sale at £1650 from Sally Wellock of Oakworth and Wilson Stewart, Carlisle respectively. Middle of the road heifers harder to place with future feed stocks beginning to become a concern despite farm gate price increases.

Harehills herd hat-trick at Craven Dairy Auction Sally Wellock’s Harehills pedigree Holstein Friesian herd at West House Farm, Oldfield, near Oakworth, rattled up a hat-trick of consecutive championship wins at July’s second Craven Dairy Auction show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, July 16)

Harehills herd champion again at Craven Dairy Auction Sally Wellock, who runs the Harehills pedigree herd at West House Farm, Oldfield, near Oakworth, bagged back-to-back championships at July’s opening Craven Dairy Auction show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 2ND JULY 2018

Craven Dairy Auction (11 head) Sally Wellock of Oakworth took honours once again at the Craven Dairy sale with a tremendous dairy heifer giving 31kg, which sold for £2100 to the Naylor family of Langbar. “There was very little between the Champion and the Reserve” commented Judge Shaun Sowray, and he wasn’t wrong as Wilson Stewart’s 40kg heifer also rocketed to £2100 selling to the same home with Mr Stewarts other 40kg heifer which was 3rd Prize and sold for £2,000.

CALF SHOW - MONDAY 26TH JUNE 2018

Housemans home in on another Skipton rearing calf title Another top-notch youngster from the Houseman dairy farming family’s Senterprise pedigree Holstein Friesian herd at Burton Top Farm, Burton Leonard, was crowned champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest rearing calf show and sale. (Monday, June 25) Trading as Church Farm Enterprises, the Housemans, who run a 350-strong dairy herd, with 300 currently in milk, secured the title with their first prize British Blue-cross bull calf, shown by regular consignee Fred Houseman.

CALF SHOW - MONDAY 25TH JUNE 2018

Rearing Calves to £435 x2 (47) B&W av £73.43 Cont av £364 Native av £189 Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises took the championship at the June’s calf show with a cracking British Blue bull by Genus bull Dev. The 6 ½ week old bull calf took top honours in a strong class of calves selling for £435 to Tony Binns the judge. Reserve Champion, another british blue calf but this time from Bishop Thorntons, Sowray Brothers sold away for the top price of the day at £460 to Abbott Bros of Dacre.

Craven Dairy Auction (18 head) A healthy trade for the milkers on offer today and a strong average to match with all milkers averaging £1860. Sally Wellock of West House Farm, Oakworth topping the days sale at £2080 for a 28kg, 8 day calved heifer. Brian Moorhouse of Hesper Farm, Bell Busk was next with his Grafeeti heifer selling to £2020.

CALVES - MONDAY 4TH JUNE 2018

Rearing Calves to £470 X2 (32) B&W av £83.88 Cont av £383.5 Native av £251.2 32 calves through the door this morning however a full ringside of buyers made for a very healthy trade. Blue heifers would have the pick of the trade with 7 heifers over £400 and topping with a heifer from John Marshall of Dacre at £435. A strong turnout of continental bulls saw Martyn Jennings of Cowling saw all of his bulls reach past £450 and top at £470 with Church Farm Enterprises also at £450. Black and whites were a nice trade once again with some young calves easing the average however anything with a hint of flesh was well past the £100 mark.

Ravensgate Mars sparkles to bag Craven Dairy Auction title Peter Baul, who trades as M Baul & Partners and runs the Ravensgate pedigree Holstein herd at Watergate Farm, Bishop Thornton, picked up his first Craven Dairy Auction championship of 2018 at the late May show. (Monday, May 28).

Craven Dairy Auction (27 head) A cracking bull trade in the dairy ring today with David, Claire and Suzy Lawson presenting two tremendous bulls, both bred from the famous Newbirks Jazz family and boasting tremendous back pedigrees sold to a ready ringside of buyers. The first prize bull Newbirks Reebok, a tremendous dark bull found a new home with Gary Swires of K Swires & Co, Beckwithshaw with the other cracking bull from Newbirks selling for £1900 to Tony Swires of Stainburn.

Rearing Calves to £470 (45) B&W av £98.33 Cont av £354.15 Skipton Calf show was on today with certainly not the biggest turnout of calves but what a cracking trade for the calves that arrived. Pre Sale show was kindly judged by Mark Burton and chose the cracking calf of Sowray Bros as his champion and a belter of a limousin from David and Richard Pickersgill of Hawksworth as Reserve Champion.

CALVES - MONDAY 30TH APRIL 2018

Rearing Calves to £455 (31) B&W av £88.73 Cont av £328.5 Native av £252.37 Quiet show of calves today but a healthy trade seen right through. Best prices were seen for black and whites calves with 6 different buyers bidding away freely for the goods on offer, best sorts from Wellock’s of Seat House were well fought over with their two straight Holstein Bulls at £180 and £160. A nice show of Aberdeen Angus calves met some fierce bidding with Michael Heron of Leeds and Paul & Janet Bolland of Airton on the receiving end with calves at £305 and £330 respectively.

Craven Dairy Auction (4 head) A small show of dairy but those who attended would be glad they did. Mark Chadwick of Chadwick and Leaver, Burnley officiated and deemed Sammy Sugdens Zebra daughter the best in show today, the homebred heifer giving 28 litres went on to sell for the sale top price of £1980 selling to Richard Sutcliffe of Queensbury.
