SATURDAY LIVESTOCK PRESS - SATURDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2019

Ryder Herdwick dispersal a highlight of CCM Skipton Saturday sale Skipton Auction Mart’s latest monthly Saturday livestock collective fixture had the added interest of a dispersal sale of the complete Herdwick flock from Chris and Christine Ryder, of Scaife Hall Farm, Blubberhouses. (Oct 12) The flock was first established in 2013 and the Ryders had decided it was time to reduce their multi-breed livestock holding, consigning the remaining 36 head, which were all sold successfully, 11 older ewes falling to Brian Church, of Askwith, Otley, while ten more were claimed by Arncliffe’s Michael and Carol McKenzie.

Young Bulls - Today’s strong trade was more a reflection of feeders pens emptying of 2018 spring born bulls with the need to sell to factories in spec and under 16 months, rather than an upturn in values at the finished end. 53 bulls penned averaged £1027 with the heavy bulls 13mths + and closer to realisation average £1095 and everything younger averaged £992.

STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 14TH AUGUST 2019

Forward: 524 head of cattle Comprising: 524 Feeding Cattle (93 Young Bulls, 37 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 395 Bullocks & Heifers) Feeding Bulls – another damp start to the day helped buyers make up their minds early and so a few more were able to attend the feeding bull sale than anticipated. Trade was very good which is as much a reflection of pens on feeders farms emptying rapidly as they sell 2018 spring born animals in spec. The bales under 10 months were keenly contested. Any and the heavy over 13 month bulls were a surprisingly good trade.
