BREEDING SHEEP PRESS - MONDAY 15TH APRIL 2019

Sharp trade at Skipton breeding sheep sale Now in full swing, Skipton Auction Mart’s breeding sheep season attracted a larger turnout of 705 head, comprising 240 ewes with 465 lambs at foot, for the latest weekly Monday sale. (Apr 15) It produced a very sharp trade for all Suffolk and Continental outfits, with the very best Mule outfits also in strong demand and a commercial Mule outfit still looking value for money compared to some of the others.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 8TH APRIL 2019

286 Breeding Sheep – 111 Ewes with 175 Lambs A decent show of sheep with lambs and a good trade throughout. Best outfits of twins £200 to £215, but strong outfits of singles £150 to £195. Commercial singles £120 to £140 and commercial twins £160-£190. More required each week now as more buyers come out looking for sheep. Please ring the office with entries each week by 12noon Fridays for inclusion in the online catalogue.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 1ST APRIL 2019

Breeding Sheep – 129 Ewes with 196 Lambs A nice show of sheep with Continental and Suffolk cross ewes with nice lambs at foot in high demand, twins £200 to £225, singles £140 to £175, twins at £225 RJ Umpleby, Killinghall also £225 and £220 DP Moore, Triangle, Sowerby Bridge. Mule sheep were a mixed selection, with a shortage of best types and Mule outfits definitely benefit from lambs being just a shade older. Top Mule sheep £200 for Shearling Twins from David White Hebden.

EWE & LAMB PRESS - MONDAY 25TH MARCH 2019

Thompson first prize twosome top on price at Skipton ewes with lambs opener Skipton Auction Mart’s opening ewes with lambs show of the season attracted over 50 show pens and produced a top price of £380 per outfit for the first prize pen of pairs from Anthony Thompson and Emma Dalby, of Higher Broach Farm, Foulridge. Their home-bred pure black Beltex shearling ewes with single ram lambs – one black, one white - sold to Dacre’s Rob Marshall.(Mon, March 25)

734 Breeding Sheep – 256 Ewes & 478 Lambs A large show of sheep with lambs, and the smart Continentals were a strong trade on the day, being the easiest types to sell. Good outfits with month old lambs finding £220 plus for twins. Mules needed big lambs too for a strong trade, but thise with younger lambs found the going tough at times. Our thanks to Ryan Staveley for judging todays early show and he gave out the following awards, with the first prixe pair from AL Thompson topping the trade at £380 per outfit. Thomas Boothman had a great run which produced the first prize pen of 5 at £270.

218 Breeding & Store Sheep – 67 Ewes with 110 Lambs & 41 Store Lambs A nice show of breeding and store sheep saw quality outfits in high demand, better sets of twins over £200 topping at £245 from RJ Umpleby and good singles £140 to £170 tops from R Fitton. BLUE FACED LEICESTERS - At CCM’s Winter Sale of Blue Faced Leicester Females the Blubberhouses based Hewness Flock owned by Kevin Wilson and his son James took championship and top priced honours at £1000 with their gimmer hogg L11. Highly admired by many, this classy hogg with great length and style with a good skin to match sired by the Harland F1, Big Head, fell for the top price of the day to JC&N Throup, Draughton.

NEMSA chair’s champion and top price double at Skipton BFL females highlight North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) chairman Kevin Wilson and his son, James, who run the Hewness flock in Blubberhouses, secured championship and top price honours at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual winter sale of Blue Faced Leicester females. STORE LAMBS & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY 2019

Forward: 2,068 Feeding and Breeding Sheep. 1,837 Store Lambs & Feeding Ewes - Average £63.57 231 Breeding Ewes – Average £111.37 Another tremendous entry of store and feeding sheep for the time of year met with a fast selling trade when put in front of a good crowd of purchasers. Best Lambs topped at £100 form Hannah Brown and £99 from AM&HV Brown, strong lowland lambs on the day in the late 70’s and early 80’s, medium types in 70’s and longer keep types in the 60’s.

ADDINGHAM SHEEP BREEDERS - WEDNESDAY 12TH DECEMBER 2018

Baa-gains galore at CCM Addingham Sheepbreeders charity lambs sale There were baa-gains galore at Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association’s 12th annual charity show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Dec 12) Big-hearted farmers donated 27 lambs in total, the majority North of England Mules, and bidders at the ringside were equally as generous when the lambs went under the hammer, this year raising £3,800 in aid of annual beneficiary, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope. The annual showcase has now raised around £44,000 for Manorlands.

MARKET REPORT - SATURDAY 8th DECEMBER 2018

WINTER SALE OF PURE BRED AND SHOW QUALITY CONTINENTAL EWES. This year’s Annual Winter Sale of individual and small groups of Continental sired sheep was one of the best yet. A very nice entry of 102 head saw a better quality show overall, and sheep had scanned better with a greater proportion of twins.

LAST SEASON BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2018

FORWARD: 553 Breeding Sheep & Rams. Final Tuesday Breeding Sheep Sale of Ewes and Rams. A tidy little sale to conclude the Tuesday sale season for this year with Rams in good demand, whilst the majority of the ewes were older correct below sheep selling to a reasonable trade.

DALESBRED PRESS - TUESDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2018

Haygarth family Dalesbred champions again at CCM Skipton North Craven father and daughter, Godfrey and Alison Haygarth, of Aigden Farm, Wigglesworth, sent out another champion at the Dalesbred Sheep Breeders’ Association’s final seasonal show and sale of rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Oct 23) Multiple past champions at the annual fixture, the Haygarths clinched their latest title with a shearling ram by a tup from John Kelsall in Cold Cotes, Clapham, out of a dam sired by a ram from John Harrison in Blubberhouses.
