Forward: 76 Prime cattle comprising 17 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 3 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 56 Cast Cattle. 5,037 Prime Sheep comprising 4506 Prime Lambs, 531 Cast Ewes & Rams. 43 Rearing Calves. 4 Loads of produce.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 29TH OCTOBER 2014

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 6,737 Head, Overall av £55.67 The fortnightly sale of Store Sheep held at CCM Skipton on Wednesday saw an increase in trade from the last sale as more grass and winter keep comes available and buyers turned out in force from across England and Wales to source lambs from the large entry on offer. Another big show of 2,315 Mule & Masham Wethers were good to sell, trade being £3 to £4 stronger than the last sale, especially for the strongest end. A top price for Mule lambs of £64 was achieved by W Furniss & Sons for their pen of 51 head, all other stronger end were £55 plus. Horned lambs were out in number again, strong sorts were good to sell but smaller lambs were a shade easier. The Suffolk & Continental Lambs also saw the stronger types better to sell, Medium keep lambs were a much stronger trade although some long keep lambs were no dearer.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2014

CCM Auctions conducted their end of season breeding sheep sale on Tuesday at Skipton Mart. A tidy entry of sheep saw breeding ewes sell to a total clearance whilst the ram sale was well attended but buyers were selective for the quality. Next sale of all classes of Breeding Sheep is on Wednesday 13th November. Entries by Monday 4th November

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 27TH OCTOBER DAIRY

Craven Dairy Auction (22 head) Harder work throughout today with the milk cheques starting to make a dent in the buyers pockets with cattle less right the way through the sale. Top end struggled to make record prices with Robert Crisp and Jeremy Taylor enjoying the best of the trade reaching £1860 for some strong heifers. Middle of the road heifers were good to sell just not to a massive price. With all animals averaging £1641, a straight trade with buyers and sellers satisfied with the outcome in the dairy industry’s current difficult trading conditions.

CCM AUCTIONS conducted their Autumn Sale of Working Sheepdogs at Skipton Mart on Friday 24th October. A very satisfactory sale was held with 90 head of Working and Part Trained Dogs forward to be offered for sale.

WORKING SHEEP DOGS - FRIDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2014 PRESS

Queen rules as Shaun Richards again crowned top dog at Skipton North Craven’s Shaun Richards was top dog again at Skipton Auction Mart’s autumn sale of working sheep dogs when selling his three-year-old tri-coloured bitch Queen for a sale-topping 4,050gns (£4,252.50). Mr Richards, who runs Pen-y-Borough Sheep Dogs in Eldroth, near Settle, has now headed the selling prices at three of this year’s four seasonal fixtures at the UK’s leading sheep dog sales venue, making second top price at the other.

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 671 head of cattle Comprising: 130 Young Feeding Bulls, 5 Grazing Cows, 518 Bullocks & Heifers, 18 Breeding Cattle CCM Auctions conducted their fortnightly cattle sale at Skipton Mart on Wednesday which included the Annual Autumn Show & Sale of Suckled Bull Steer and Heifer calves (2014 born) together with a prize Show of over year show potential cattle (2013 born). The sale saw a total entry of 663 head, an increase of 117 head from the same sale last year.

Skipton stages annual suckled calf and over year store cattle highlight North Craven mother and son Janet and James Huck presented the champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Autumn showcase for this year’s crop of suckled calves and over year store cattle with show potential.

DALESBRED RAMS - TUESDAY 21ST OCTOBER

ANNUAL SALE OF PEDIGREE RAMS ON BEHALF OF MEMBERS OF THE DSBA. 31 Rams sold overall average £158.35 Judges Andrew Wright & Henry Fawcett saw their judgement backed when their Supreme Champion made top price of 700gns at the Annual Show & Sale of Dalesbred Rams. The Champion and 1st prize shearling ram shown by Godfrey & Alison Haygarth of Tosside is by the £3800 Karen Harrison (Blubberhouses) ram out of a Michael Dawson bred ewe, and was purchased by Richard Brown of Leyburn. Messrs Haygarth & Daughter emerged to the fore again with a shearling ram by the same sire bred from a homebred ewe which joined David Lambert of Leyburn for 500gns. In a strong shearling ram section an unplaced ram shown by Messrs JH&JA Graham & Sons of Lofthouse made 440gns, by a Kevin Wilson ram bred from a Colin Price ewe joined JB&LJ Shirt of Edale. With a reduced entry it was encouraging to see the quality of stock on offer which in turn created interest and custom amongst top breeders.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 21ST OCTOBER

CCM Auctions conducted their fourth fortnightly sale of Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. Where a large crowd of buyers gathered to produce a trade that seemed to be dearer than previous sale. Strongest lambs were £100 plus, smart lambs were £88-£95 and a straight running lamb could be bought for £80 to £88. Next sale of Gimmer Lambs is on Wednesday 12th November. Entries by Monday 3rd November. Forward: 2,370 head Gimmer Lambs. Average £79.77

DALESBRED RAMS - TUESDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2014 PRESS

Haygarths win again and scoop high price at Skipton Dalesbred ram annual show Father and daughter Godfrey and Alison Haygarth, of Aigden Farm, Wigglesworth, emerged victorious once again with the champion at the Dalesbred Sheep Breeders’ Association’s annual show and sale of shearling and aged rams at Skipton Auction Mart.
