CRAVEN LIMOUSIN DAY - WEDNESDAY 11TH MAY 2022

A near 90% clearance rate for cattle at the Craven Limousin Day saw the prices headed by the third prize intermediate bull, ‘Pikestone Ragnar’ a May 2020 bull shown by Carl Stephenson of Woodland.

‘Ragnar’ is by the ‘Lodge Hamlet’ son ‘Gallaber Leo’ whilst his mother ‘Pikestone Heffalump’ was bred from ‘Waindale Someboy’ a bull which has bred commercial show calves to £8500 and the entry was bought by JA Stoney and Son of Bewerley. In a solid trade for bulls ready for work the Brontemoor herd of JM&SM Priestley from Kirkcambeck were again to the fore with ‘Brontemoor Reveller’ an August 2020 ‘Trueman Idol’ son bred from the ‘Ampertaine Commander’ cow, ‘Brontemoor Lipsi’. ‘Reveller’ was the first prize bull in the older intermediate class and reserve intermediate champion, and was bought by WA Dinsdale of Harkerside for 4800gns.

The Supreme champion was Zac Ward’s first prize junior bull and champion male ‘Intack Sumo’. Who is a January 2021 son of ‘Maraiscote Graffiti’ bred from the ‘Sympa’ granddaughter ‘Goldies Floche’ and who caught the eye of Mesrs JM&SM Priestley and sold for 4000gns. The sale always produces a crop of good junior bulls aged 12- 14 months and this year was no exception with the pick the April 2021 born ‘Oddacres Sidney’ sold by John and Claire Mason from Embsay. ‘Sidney’ is out of the ‘Gallois’ cow ‘Oddacres Noisette’ and by ‘Procters Major’, a ‘Haltcliffe Doctor’ son and sold to local specialist cattle breeder and feeder, Ben Townsend from Laneshawbridge.

The Mason family also saw success in the female section securing the reserve supreme championship with the youngest animal at the sale the exceptional ‘Oddacres Stella’ born in June 2021.  ‘Stella’ is by ‘Procters Major’ and in similar vein to their bull, out of a ‘Gallois’ cow, ‘Oddacres Nigella’ but this time with a line to ‘Homebyres Elitelady’ and she sold to Sercar Agricultural for 3400gns. Females saw a particularly good clearance with pedigree buyers stood alongside commercial buyers looking for high health cattle. Garrowby Estate Farms from Bugthorpe lead the prices with ‘Gunnerfleet Preloche’ a 2019 first calved heifer sold with her September born, ‘Nabal’ sired daughter ‘Garrowby Scaramouche’ which sold to H Ormerod of Clowbridge for 5200gns. This lot was followed immediately by another Garrowby entry ‘Gunnerfleet Palome’, an ‘Ampertaine Magnum’ daughter sold with ‘Plumtree Fantastic’ bull calf at foot born in October which sold to JC&J White of Barnard Castle for 4200gns.
