3,098 Prime Sheep comprising 2382 Prime Lambs & 716 Cast Ewes & Rams

A quieter week today on the lambs in response to trade having eased late last week and commercial sorts expected to be cheaper on the week, and that generally was the case with commercial first crosses 210p to 225p, a few making a shade more if nicely finished and a decent weight. The ¾ bred lambs and smarter end however were a nice trade, Messrs Boynton of Ripon leading the sale at £156 £150 and £147 with all three pens selling to Andrew Atkinson. These were also the three highest price per kilo at 331p 327p and 319p.
Ellis Bros made 315p (45kg £142), KG&JL Huck of Bordley 314p (£132 42kg) and James Garth & Son of Keasden 311p (45kg £140)
Heavy Lambs were again keenly contested as buyers stick to meat, those over 52kg levelling at £128, but nice sorts £125 to £140 regular away. 46kg to 52kg 220p to 240p depending on quality, butchers retail types 240p to 300p for the smart skinned nice sorts.
Handy weighted sheep were a decent trade for smarter good, better end of the primes also a nice go, commercial end harder work, especially if just lacking that bit of shine.
Mules a straight trade for the meated types, 210p upwards.

Ewes similar trade not much different on the week. A good mixed show in for all buyers’ requirements with 714 Ewes and Tups sold and 2 Goats. Heavy well-bred continental ewes £135-£149.50 up to £177.50 for Charollais Ewes from TJ Howarth. Heavy first cross ewes £128-£137, medium full meat continental ewes £115-£125, lean continental ewes £95-£105, with lean light weights £70-£85 and plain goods £50-£65. Mules selling well again plenty of half to three quarter meat ewes in £75-£85 and full meat ewes £92+ selling to a top of £114.50 from M, Preston, Silsden. Suffolk ewes sold to £155.50 from JA Brown & Son, Newark, Heavies £130+, medums £110-£120 and lightweight ewes £79.50-£90. Plenty of lean swales about again £28-£38. Half to three quarter meat ewes £38-£45 and full meat heavy ewes £52-£66.
