2,509 Prime Sheep comprising 2122 Prime & Lightweight Hoggs & 387 Cast Ewes & Rams

Absolutely electric is the only way to describe it today, as the sale averaged 290.7p/kg aided by an SQQ of 300p!! The overall average per head was £125.18 per head as lambs keep getting dearer, but if these values are more than acceptable then its time to start selling.

Best end 350p plus, with 4 pens achieving £4 per kilo or more, top gross price £170 from Messrs Woolhouse Doncaster, and an amazing 41 pens making £150 plus. The nice end of commercial lambs 38kg to 46kg making £3 plus easily, whilst heavier lambs £130 to £150 regular away, and selling to a full compliment of buyers all keen for sheep and competing strongly for all classes.

Lowland Lambs over 52kg –  The lowland bred sorts averaged nearly £138 in this bracket, and chief heavy prices were £160 for Continentals from EP&JM Hutchinson Faceby selling to J&E Medcalf, with Messrs Hutchinson having 4 more pens at £150 plus, inc Continentals selling to at £153 to John Kearns Butchers in Shipley. Brian Lund of Walshaw sold four lots of lambs and these were £157 to A Atkinson, and 3 lots at £155. Messrs Capstick of Bolton By Bowland also made £157, again to A Atkinson.

46kg to 52kg Lowland Lambs – I thought last week was top of the pops, but this week took it to another level, Messrs Hutchinson sold 47kg Continentals at £167.50, the 50kg at the same money, followed by at £160. Jimmy Towler Grindleton also made £160 of 48kg Beltex, with Messrs Hutchinson Faceby again in at £153.50 £151.50 £151 and £150. Derbyshire vendors D&L Wain, Ashbourne made their regular trip to Skipton and weren’t disappointed making £154 of 47kg’s and Mike Allen also from the edge of the North York Moors up at Staithes travelled across to Skipton to take advantage of the prices and made £150.

36kg to 45kg Lowland Lambs: 19 pens in this weight range alone from £150 to £170, and another 23 pens in the £140’s, and 23 pens between 350p and 402p. Top Call at £170 for 45kg Beltex x Charollais lambs belonged to SP Woolhouse & Sons Doncaster with a great run of fed lambs arriving on the Sheep Shuttle, and others at £164 and £163.50 (377p 371p and 364p). Messrs Atkinson Felliscliffe topped at £165 and £156 and two pens at 402p and 400p per kilo. EP&JM Hutchinson £161.50, JE Burrow £158 £157 and CD&RF Kitching £158 and DN&D Capstick £157. Two other vendors achieved 400p/kg, both selling 39kg at £156 per head, those vendors being DN&D Capstick, and CR Brittain, Doncaster as part of a great run of sheep.
Commercial lowland types 40/42kg were dearer again on last week, 300p to 325p a common price range for the next grade down, 43kg/46kg very good to sell around 290p/315p.

35kg and less Lowland Lambs: just like last week the lightweights were easily short of requirements.  Menwith Pigs sellig two pens of 35kg Continentals at £116 per head or 331p, other nice 32kg to 34kg in the £90’s.
