Cast cows were a similar trade with the shortage of meat supplemented by feeding interest at the ringside. Amongst the entry was a fair proportion of cattle with tags from around the EU which usually take a little more placing but not today with little or no discount for non UK.

3,611 Prime Sheep comprising 2,938 Prime & Lightweight Hoggs & 673 Cast Ewes & Rams

A great trade today with just shy of 3,000 lambs penned and sold. Overall selling averages of £118.88 per head or 273.5p/kg. Smart Lambs as predicted very good to sell, 300p to 350p achieved a long list of times, but it was the heavies that were up a nice bit this week, whilst handy weight and medium weight commercial lambs were in high demand, as the averages below show, the 1976 lambs all breeds weighing 36kg to 45kg averaged 281.1p, and withing the sale £130 to £150 per head was achieved for 127 pens of lambs and a top of £158 on two occasions. Within todays sale we held our Monthly Primestock Show kindly judged by Mr Mick Etherington. Champions were 42kg Beltex making £140 from JE Burrow & H Baines selling to Vivers Scotlamb, whilst reserves were 48kg Beltex from Taylor Bros Rathmell selling at £158 to Robertshaws Farmshop at Thornton. Full results below.
