A larger show of cattle met with a good trade across the board, 17 Continental Bullocks and Heifers averaged 292p/kg or £1822.45 per head.
Hargreaves Farms of Preston presented 4 Bullocks to top at £2006.65 or 299.5p, with the 4 averaging £1990.25 a piece. 2 being purchased by Nick Dalby and 2 by Robert Pearson.
Leading Heifer price was £1938 achieved by CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield this also selling to Robert Pearson.
per kilo it was F&B Smith of Westhouse, Ingleton who had top price at 315.5p with a Limousin Bullock heading to Robert Pearson. Messrs Kithcing also broke top side of 300p today with a Limousin Bullock and a Limousin Heifer both making 300.5p.

A cracking show of cows were a sharp trade and keenly bid for, to level at 165.6p across the board. Beef bred Cows hit 200p bid price from Glen Bell of Dibbles Bridge for a nice Limousin cross, who sold others at 196.5p and 193.5p too. Natives had Herefords to 172.5p from RG Church of Askwith, and Angus to 170.5p from JR Taylor & Son Winterburn.
Tidy Black & Whites and Dairy crosses in good demand, Dairy Shorthorn to 183.5p from JR Taylor & Son Winterburn, MRI to 165.50p from N&SA Fort of Glusburn and Hols Friesian to 174.5p from MP Jennings, Cowling and 172.5p from CN&SA Harrison Elslack. Jersey crosses hit 157.5p and 155.5p form JSS Verity of Whitewell, Clitheroe.

A similar show of Springers forward today, and trade was much sharper than most expected, but with numbers tight at the moment trade took a nice lift of around 7p on the week, liveweight prices up today whilst local deadweight outlets are bidding about 20p less this week! Sell Live and Thrive.

So a sharper trade, with heavier lambs weighing late 40’s or into the 50’s very good to sell indeed. The 46kg to 52kg bracket levelling at £164.57, and over 52kg’s at £181.79
Joint top price today was £215 per head, first achieved by M Crabtree of Kettlesing and then by JA Gibson & Son of Church Fenton, Tadcaster being purchased by L. Brown and Hartshead Meat Co respectively.
D&L Coar of Darwen peaked their run at £192 when selling 47KG Beltex crosses at 408p to Vivers Scotlamb.
Tim Robinson of Dutton Longridge was in the top prices as well with lambs at £190 and £188 per head, with 19 pens of lambs in the sale making £180 or more. 47 pens made over £170 and 69 pens over £160.
Top Kilo price in the sale was 413.3p when D&L Coar sold 45kg lambs at £186, alongside their others at 408p.
GW Houseman & Prtnrs of Padside, Harrogate topped a run of lambs at 400p when sellig 42kg at £168 to Vivers Scotlamb. Quality lambs like these were in great demand with 68 pens over 350p, and a straight 100 pens at 340p or more. All Texel Lambs in the sale averaged £140.75.
The mainstream weight category of 36kg to 45kg shows a 6p rise on the week with buyers keener for commercial handyweight springers.



A very good late season entry of 634 Hoggs penned for sale with a very mixed selection on offer. Best heavies generally in the £140’s and £150’s, good Continental handyweights 270p to 300p, midle of the road goods either side of 250p, plainer end 220p 240p, sheep with faults at realisation.
Messrs Stapleton and Son of Hellifield topped the sale at £180 (60kg 300p) purchased by Joe Bosworth.
Simon and Avril Wallbank of Bradley made £178 of Texel crosses.
J Long of Malhamdale also made 300p (40kg £120). Kevin Marshall of Menwith Hill had 295p for Mules (40kg £118).
Hoggs needed every week with some outlets still using them and requiring them a few more weeks yet.  Speak to Ted or Kyle for more details.



A lot of lean and plain ewes in todays sale with all classes of ewes dearer on the week. Best bred ewes selling £200-£229.50 with top price from M Crabtree, Harrogate. Heavy crossed ewes £165-£188 while the lean ewes and medium meat ewes £130-£150. Lean medium crossed ewes £110-£130 plain ewes a touch less either side of £100. Mules traded well with heavies upto £139.50 from M Crabtree again. Mediums £115-£130 and plainer end £85-£108. Swale ewes sold to £119.50 from Flasby Estates, Flasby and £117.50 for pen from KN&CA Heath, Macclesfield. Meat Swales £95-£110 mediums sold at £75-£85 and plain ewes £50-£68. BFL Tups sold to £164.50 from KN&CA Heath, Macclesfield.

Rearing Calves to £475 Sales Every Monday at 10:30am

Calves still as dear with a good mixed show in and purchasers for all goods. 17 Black & Whites in today with a top price of £165 from JT Rushton, Elslack. Medium 3-week-old calves £72-£98 and fortnight old calves £35-£58 depending on size. Angus bulls traded similar with best calves over £310-£335. Nice mediums £245-£295. Smaller plainer end £235-£250. Only 7 blue bulls in today with younger end £280-£300 and best ended bulls at 4/6 weeks of age £380-£435 with Top Price of £470 from P&RM Sutcliffe, Queensbury. Lim bulls sold at £470, £475 from G Pickersgill & Sons, Hawksworth. Blue heifers £330-£390 for mediums and smalls £260-£310 and the best heifers £450-£60. Top price from M&R Smith, Winterburn.

Winton wins again!


A good cross section of animals forward for the fortnightly dairy sale with Peter Waring securing both Champion and Reserve with two very correct heifers, his third championship in the recent couple of months sales. The champion Winton Secretariat Roxy 2 calved on the 23rd May and was giving 31kg and was bred from 11 generations of the famous Roxy family, she topped the sale at £2500, selling to M Goodall of Tong who added two more to his purchases on the day, with the milking heifers averaging £2316.66. Cows in milk included a youthful fresh second calver from J Dibb that was 1st prize in the cow class followed by a fresh fourth calver from BH Wilson in second place, both of which are ongoing dispersals with the cows in milk topping at £1650 and averaging £1412.50.

8 In calf heifers were forward, five consigned by Wilsons and three from Sally Wellock, all met with some competitive bidding peaking at £1880 for a heifer by Gillette Caviar due to the Saler at the end of July with the hammer falling to P & RM Sutcliffe of Queensbury. Six bulling heifers from JT Moran completed the line up and again solid trade saw them average £916.67  all six secured by RG Johnson, Felliscliffe.
