2,058 Prime Sheep comprising 1,677 Prime & Lightweight Hoggs & 381 Cast Ewes & Rams

Sheep numbers very light today countrywide following the lower prices seen middle and late last week, and probably not helped by the weekend snow and ice in most places too. 1,677 head of hoggs sold today and although prices would be dearer than we expected, especially for the handy weights, there is an obvious resistance amongst meat companies to return too quickly to the extreme prices seen in the new year, and so a happy medium seems to be on the cards. So todays overall average of 257p (SQQ of 264p) was a nice price range to end up in.

Both pens sold to Brayton Farmshop.
Messrs Blakey also sold 42kg at £147.50 or 351p, this time to Hartshead Meats, and further pens at £137 or  342p, £137.50 or 335p and £136 or 302p in a consignment average of £141.06.

Other Best quality pens in this weight range making £130 plus or 320p/kg to 350p/kg.
