Top call in the steers was a 670kg Blue from CD&RF Kitching making 283.5p and adding up to £1899, others from the same home grossed £1871 and £1812 at 281.5p and 285.5p. All three going to Ralph Pearson, Bradford.

4,378 Prime Sheep comprising 3469 Prime Lambs & 909 Cast Ewes & Rams

Lambs:
A cracking down in the sheep ring today, with the largest show of the season so far and trade back to prices seen a couple of weeks ago with a fantastic overall average of 232p being recorded for 3,469 head.
In line with expectations, the nice Wholesale and Retail type lambs (best end of Texel Mules, ¾ Continentals and Beltex) were a much sharper trade on the week, with weights from 40kg to 55kg in best demand in this category.
Messrs Boynton of Ripon took top kilo price on the day at 336p (43kg £144.50) selling to Vivers Scotlamb, with the same vendor also selling at 330p (45kg £148.50). Messsr Boynton also sold 50kg lambs at £153 to Hartshead Meat Co, Mossley.
Messrs Atkinson, Harrogate presented an excellent run of lambs which included the top price per head at £153.50 (53kg) purchased by Messrs A Wright & Son, Wholesalers, Boston. Messrs Atkinson sold lambs at 335p 333p, 328p and 322p, or £148 twice £142 and £140.
JK Wilson & Son of Blubberhosues notched up £148.50 for a Texel Lamb, James Garth & Son of Keasden topped their run at £147.50. Mike Allen of Staithes Whitby also made £147.50, Ali Jenkinson of Langbar Ilkley made £143 and Frankland Farms Rathmell £142.
13 lots £140 plus, and 33 lots £130 to £139.50. 51 lots 270p plus.
Heavy lambs took a useful lift today, even for the commercial end, giving a bit of decent reward for lambs that have had feed. The 1,038 lambs scaling 46kg or above levelling at a very agreeable 234.9p/kg or £113 per head. The better smarter end were regularly 240p to 260p, best end to 300p, but the commercial types fit for 225p-230p if they have been fed.
A handier weight lamb outwith the top bracket was 240p to 265p generally for a smarter skinned type, and 220p to 240p for a commercial sort depending upon finish levels.

Ewes:
909 Cast Ewes & Rams sold today. Ewes just a touch easier in some areas but Swales, Mules and Heavies selling the same. Char x ewes sold at £151.50 from High Harbour Farms and Texels sold to £157.50 from M Crabtree, Harrogate and £155.50 from D Hargreaves, Airton. Best bred ewes £135-£157.50. Texel Tups sold to £174.50. Heavy first crossed ewes £125-£140. Medium ewes’ full flesh £100-£115, Lean ewes £78-£95 and plain white-faced ewes £48-£65.
Mules a very nice trade heavies with full flesh £100-£110.50 mediums £85-£95 and lean ewes £75+ with plain feeding sorts from £40-£65. Overall Mules avg £80.
Horned ewes sold to £78.50. Full fleshed horned ewes dearer on the week with heavies £65-£78.50, mediums £55-£62, lean Swales £32-£42 and plain ewes generally in the £20’s. Over a quarter of the entry today were horned ewes so a great average with this in mind.
