Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 469 head of cattle Comprising: 450 Feeding Cattle (39 Young Bulls, 46 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 365 Bullocks & Heifers) & 12 Breeding Cattle & 7 Pedigree Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – first show of bulls with a decent entry of Spring Continental born calves. Crept calves in forward condition were £1100 to £1240. The smaller shapey bulls generally £950 to £1000. A run of autumn calves from JR&DL Ogden confirmed the interest in high health bulls selling to £1540 twice, £1360 and £1340. Bulls over 12 months sold to £1590 a limousin bull from IJ Pratt. With a good trade prevailing its worth looking at stronger spring calves as well as Autumn born bulls with the usual note that buyer continue to keep pens full.
Highest Priced Bull born 2021 - £1240 SJ&CJ Handley

Feeding Cows - a mixed entry of cows today with a good percentage short of flesh. Current back log of cows in finishing yards whilst factories concentrate on clean cattle lead to buyers competing well for the better cows but the lean cows harder to place.
Highest Priced Feeding Cow – £1180 D Walbank.

Stores - A nice entry of cattle, which included the Autumn Show & Sale for 2020 and 2021 born calves.
Older Continental Bullocks were a straight trade on the day with no real stormers present, in the main just good commercial sorts. Messrs Hall of Gargrave had a pair of Black Lim crosses selling at £1350, whilst a nice pair of Charolais crosses from N&SJ Pinder Coniston Cold were close behind at £1340. P&E Fox had some strong cattle not just as old as the above, taking the 1st Prize ticket with a 16month old Limousin (June 20) selling at £1340. Not many other suckler bred older bullocks on offer, but mainly £1200 plus. Strongest Dairy Beef crosses approaching £1200, up to mid £1200s, whilst the next grade of decent framed types £1080 to £1150 generally, whilst more long term types were £900 to £1050.
Young Suckler Bred bullocks were a nice trade with many annual customers visiting this sale looking for cattle to farm on. Lim Blue crosses with that extra spark of carcass suitable for retail trade could make £950 to £1040 at 7mo to 10mo, the next grade of Lim Blue crosses £800 to £920.
Charollais Bullocks attracted a good amount of interest, with calves in the 6mo-7mo age range generally mid to late £800’s, odd ones sneaking over £900.
The heifers on offer saw a good trade for older short keep suckler bred heifers suitable for retail shop trade or quality wholesale use. Continental heifers with shape, flesh and a decent sized frame commanding £1200 to £1400, Messrs Nelson of Bordley making £1480 and £1350 of 17month old Limousin crosses, P&E Fox made £1420 of a 17mo old Limousin too. Messrs Handley of Thornton in Lonsdale peaked at £1400 with others at £1360 and £1330 at 18/20 months, whilst Janet Sheard of Almondbury hit £1315 with a trio of nice Limousins at 8 months.
A continental Heifer just a shade younger or smaller was £1050 to £1150. Best end of Dairy Beef crosses could make £1100 to £1200, strong framed types £950 to £1080, whilst an older but softer plainer sort either side of £900.
The Suckler bred heifers, like the bullocks, found an excellent enquiry. Best end of 2021 born heifers saw a 6 month old Lim Blue cross from Messrs Fleetwood at £1050, with best Lim Blue crosses generally £900 to £950 at 6mo/7mo, and £800 to £880 an easily obtainable figure for nice commercial Lim,Blue or Charollais crosses. The smaller end of young suckler heifers 2021 born generally in the 700’s.
