Feeding Bulls – a very good trade for bulls with a lighter show perhaps an indication of the reducing suckler herd nationally. Plenty of incentive to have good quality male calves entire with a section average of £1070. Bulls under 12 months of age av £1061. Many pens of exceptional bulls in the entry with the pick of the trade. Limousin av £1110 (all ages)

Feeding Cows – buyers anticipating a shortage of fed beef cows in the next few months with the ringside of feeders now supplemented by grazing accounts. Best end of the purebred continentals were £1480 for blues and £1410 for limousins. 48 cows averaged £882. Beef first cross cows were £1000+ depending on weight and finish. The lightweight cows were a fierce trade with but one exception £600-£700.

Stores - 441 Bullocks and Heifers pass through the ring with trade as buoyant as recent levels and a swift sale moved along by several larger consignments who were able to sell in pens of 5 & 6 at a time. All goods catered for with an increased ringside of buyers out for all classes. Best Black and Whites £960-£1015, slightly plainer in the £800 range with a pen of young grazing bullocks £690-£740. Suckler bred steers £1250-£1350 for nice U grade bullocks. Some weighted Lims exceeded these prices selling to £1490, Fair Place Farm, Keighley followed by AJ Shepherd, Eshton £1440. Good U grade bullocks plenty of size and style £1350-£1400 going to supply the live auction ring both North and South of the auction coming for quality goods. Charollois bullocks at 14 moth sold to £1290, G&R Bulmer & Sons, Wakefield. A consignment of 52 Charolais and Lim Bullocks only 10-11 month old from The Firm of William King & Son, South Kelsey topped at £1230 and the least at £1000. Angus Bullocks sold well 25 forward with best end full meat bullocks at £1200-£1280 and more feeding sorts with size £1140-£1200 lighter end of feeders £100-£1080. Young 5 month bullocks £645-£700.

Young Lim heifers to graze sold with a good audience of buyers ringside.

The very top end going to make into bulling heifers sold to tremendous heights. £1400-£1580 for some young 8-12 month heifers from a range of vendors, and several customers looking for bulling heifers willing to spend £1100 to £1500 depending on age and quality. Run of 8 month old Charolais heifers from Flash House Farms £780-£880 with some exceptional ones reaching the 4 figures.

Char heifers to £1250 from J&M Blakey, Bolton by Bowland. 8 month old Chars from Flash House Farms sold large pens in-between £850-£950

Angus heifers sold well with dairy bred heifers £880-£1010 for feeders and young 5/6 month old suckler bred sorts at £520.

38 Fortnightly Breeding Cattle –

Trade for replacements brought a good entry of spring calving cattle to the sale. Suckler buyers are very selective these days lookin for health schemes and quality. Though not quite as heady as a fortnight ago, the best incalf continental cows were to a top of £1500 for 3rd calvers and incalf heifers peaked at £1700.
