This trade was epitomised by the Mule Wethers, for which we held our Annual Show today and by the end of the sale some 1,964 Wethers had sold to a top of £90.50, closely followed by the first prize pen from A Newbould & Son Dallowgill making £90, and a wonderful breed average of £79.54. Buyers looking for numbers and finding them here.
Beltex crosses were keenly contested, several better pens on the day £110 to £120 and topping at £121 from TB Moorhouse and Son of Dacre. A single lamb was donated for sale in aid of The Uk Sepsis Trust by Ian Mary & Richard Lancaster of Clitheroe, the lamb had been part of the Great Yorkshire Show Championship winning team and sold for £400. Good skinned lambs were £100 to £110.
Texels were up £106 and £105 from W Mason & Sons, Appletreewick, strong lambs regularly in the £90’s, good framed sorts in the mid late £80’s lambs, medium keep types £80s, and long keep ones £mid to late £70’s. A handful of small wintering types late £60’s to early £70’s.
Suffolks remaining in good demand, reaching £100, and the prices ranges very much mirror the Texels.
Cheviots coming forward in larger numbers, best end £85/£90, to a top of £90.50 from Grain Farms, Wadsworth, Mediums late £70’s upwards.
